It has been a day filled with surprises amidst other things as popular catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Patrick Henry Edet in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, officially resigns from the catholic priesthood.
This was revealed by the priest during a radio programme on Planet 101.1 fm on Wednesday.
The priest who said it took seven months to take the decision, thanked the Catholic church for all they have done for him and went further to thank his Bishop for the support while this situation lasted.
The priest forgave anyone that might want to judge him by the standards of the church but added that the church didn’t call him but God did. As such, he would rather be faithful to God than to a system, no matter how impeccable it looks.
The priest said he ceases to be a Catholic Priest, in my spirit and in my soul from today henceforth. He also forgave those who will criticise him.
The priest added that he lives for God and seeks freedom for his soul, and that as he leaves, he leaves smiling.
According to the priest, the catholic church puts one in a box as to their knowledge of God and anytime someone wants to go beyond that box, he is slapped with a label or tag. However, his walk with God has shown him that God cannot be put in a box.
When asked about the reasons for his resignation, he said he will talk about them soon, but for now, he wants to serve God in another capacity.
