A fresh cult war in Calabar which has claimed lives has erupted following the death of Dr. Emmanuel Igbo Igbeng, a lecturer in the department of Accounting of the University of Calabar who was among the PhD graduates in economics at the 30th convocation ceremony of the institution which was held on the 12th of March 2017.
The lecturer was shot on the night of Thursday, 16th March, at his residence in Calabar, exactly five days after his convocation.
According to punch, Dr. Igbo Igbeng alleged to be a member of the Viking Confraternity was shot by gunmen who are suspected to be members of the KKK Confraternity.
This led to the KKK members mobilizing their members for an attack which has led to bloodshed and loss of lives within three days.
According to reports, on Friday, someone was shot dead along Queen Duke street and another at Harcourt by Luggard Street.
On Saturday morning, one was shot dead at Etim Edem park while on Sunday, two people were reportedly shot dead at White House and a young man killed at Eta Agbo.
When asked about the killings, the police spokesperson, ASP Irene Ugbo said the shooting is confirmed and they are currently investigating but no arrests have been made yet.
According to her, the police have been dispatched into the city to ensure that everything goes back to normal.
