The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps Agency, LASECORPS, have arrested nine hawkers, six motorists and four passengers during a recent operation to stop ‘illegal street trading’ in the State.
The operation was carried out on Agege Motor Road. The motorists were arrested for patronizing highway hawkers while their vehicles were also impounded.
The Corps Marshal, CSP Jimoh Amusat Bola (rtd) said LASECORPS would henceforth arrest sellers, buyers, and motorists for illegal street trading.
According to him, the Agency is bent on stopping ‘illegal street trading’ in the State.
CSP Jimoh disclosed that the arrested offenders were arraigned at the Samuel Ilori Court in Ogba and In a judgement delivered by Magistrate Olayiwola Ogundare, the hawkers and their customers were sentenced to three months jail with an option of N10,000 fine with each of the motorists paying additional N20,000 to the State.
The impounded vehicles are, Honda Accent marked MUS-479DE, Hiace – LSR – 272XP, Toyota Hilux – KRD – 389XE; Sienna – JJJ745DQ; taxi cab – GGE 149XG and a commercial bus- LSD – 348EH.
