President Buhari will leave Nigeria for Istanbul, Turkey, to attend the Developing 8 (D-8) Summit.
The summit with the theme, ‘‘Expanding Opportunities through Cooperation’’, will be held on Friday October 20, 2017.
The Developing 8 (D-8), also be marking the 20th anniversary of the organisation which was established to improve the position of developing countries’ in the world economy.
Before the D-8 Summit, the Nigerian President, will participate in an official working visit to Ankara, the capital city, at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey.
President Buhari will also visit the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey in Ankara where he will meet with the Speaker, Ismail Kahraman.
Among other things, the summit will focus on cooperation in the areas of trade, agriculture, transport, energy and increased private sector participation among member-countries.
According to the Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on Media & Publicity, Femi Adesina, at the summit, the President will highlight the significant show of confidence in Nigeria’s business environment and economy.
He also added that the president will declare Nigeria’s resolve to work with the Developing 8 member countries on many areas, including security and peace.
The Heads of State at the end of the Summit, will also adopt a Communiqué, known as the ‘Istanbul Declaration’.
