Three people were burnt alive by suspected arsonists in Tse-Achia village near Kasar in the outskirts of Zaki Biam, Ukum local government area of Benue state, on Friday.
The incident was confirmed by the police, saying the attackers razed some buildings in the village.
According to Moses Yanmu, the Police public relations officer in Benue State, the arsonists carried out the attack in the early hours of Friday, 24th March.
Yanmu added that preliminary investigations revealed that the attack was a “retaliatory” one since the investigations had revealed that the driver who drove the vehicle that conveyed the attackers to Tse Achia was from Zaki Biam.
According to him, the identity of the attackers was still unknown, but assured the public that the culprits would be apprehended.
There had been a recent attack on a market in Zaki Biam, Benue state by unknown gunmen which led to the loss of lives and President Muhammadu Buhari commiserated with them. About seventeen people were killed in the attack, while 11 others sustained injuries.
The attack on Tse-Achia happened just a few days after unknown gunmen drove into Zaki Biam village in a Toyota car few days ago, shooting sporadically and destroying things on their trail and burnt the Zaki Biam Yam Market still in Benue state.
According to The police, they have not been able to figure out the motive of the attackers, but appealed to those with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the hoodlums to volunteer it to security agencies.
