Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom last weekend claimed the wanted militant leader, Terwase Agwaza, alias ‘Gana’ whom he pointed fingers at in the recent Zaki Biam massacre is being sponsored by some individuals.
According to the Governor, he is really sure that the renewed attacks are not from the Fulani herdsmen, but from Gana who is killing people.
On Friday, three people were burnt alive by suspected arsonists and some houses were also razed in Tse-Achia village near Kasar in the outskirts of Zaki Biam, Ukum local government area of Benue state.
This happened just few days after unknown gunmen drove into Zaki Biam village in a Toyota car few days before, shooting sporadically and destroying things on their trail and also burnt the Zaki Biam Yam Market still in.
Speaking in Makurdi, the Governor said Terwase Agwaza, alias ‘Gana’ would eventually be arrested to face prosecution. “If you talk about the criminality of Gana, who has been killing people all over, we have declared him wanted and even placed a reward on him.” He said.
“He has gone into hiding and we are appealing to people to avail us of information. I am in touch with the Inspector General of Police, the Chief of Army Staff, the Commandant of Civil Defence, the DSS Director General and security men and equipment have been provided for Benue State.” He continued.
The governor also said that security agencies ranging from the police to the Department of State Service (DSS) are working with him to make sure the perpetrators of the acts are brought to book.
He also refused to mention the names of the alleged sponsors of Gana. According to him, not every security matter is supposed to be discussed in public. Some are classified but will be talked about in due time.
