AMCON takes over  Arik Air, Arik disagrees.

Arik Airline has been experiencing difficulties recently, causing the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) to take over the airline because of its huge indebtedness to local and foreign creditors.

The Senior Vice President of Arik Air, Mr. Ado Sanusi said the airline had been served with a valid court order empowering AMCON to take over the company.

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) said the reason for the intervention is because the government is trying to instill sanity in the country’s aviation sector as well as prevent a major catastrophe.

Oluseye Opasanya (SAN) and, Roy Ukpebo Ilegbodu,  an aviation expert have been appointed to manage the airline for now.

Meanwhile, at a joint news conference with the newly appointed receiver manager, Oluseye Opasanya, and Roy Ilegbodu, the Senior Vice President of Arik Air, Ado Sanusi disclosed that  Arik Air will challenge the taking over of the airline by AMCON in court.

“As responsible citizens, we have obeyed the court order which appointed the Oluseye Opasanya (SAN) as the receivership manager. We will comply but I want to make it clear that we have a right to challenge the court order.” He said.

“In the coming days, we will make our position known. It is a court order and we can challenge it and we will challenge it to the highest court of authority,” Mr. Sanusi said.

He added that while the legal battle would be on one front, the parties had agreed that Arik Air would continue to run without any disruption.
