Hi Didi, could you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Idongesit Inuk but I’m called Didi by a lot of people,   I’m student and an entrepreneur. I call myself a DIY lady too because I spend my whole time on the internet learning how to acquire various skills. For example, I make my own hair, customise my notebooks, and produce my skincare regimen.  I like reading books and dancing in public although I’m a horrible dancer.

I’m also studying law at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom state whilst blogging about fashion and lifestyle and running my make-up company(Beautify by the Inuk).

In your own words, what is style?

In my own words, “style is my expression”. It’s basically how I see myself as a person expressed with the clothing I wear. Styling for me is a breath of fresh air, and sometimes my friends and roommates ask for my opinion on creating their personal style. It’s a really exciting experience for me when people ask me to style them.

Describe your personal style.

I believe that my style is dynamic. It transcends through different generally articulated styles. It’s a mixture of class with a bit of edginess, and fun playing around monochrome outfits. I say it’s dynamic because it changes a lot. About two years ago, I was a bit more ‘sportish’ with my style till I generated in corporate sexy….lol

Does your style reflect your personality?

Yes it does. I can be a bit uptight and overzealous sometimes and it is usually expressed with my monochrome combinations. But I also like to wear my hair down sometimes, kick off the heels, put on some sneakers and just lay back and enjoy life, and in those moments you find me in a bright coloured dress.

Now, reveal the secret. Where do you buy your cute outfits and why?

I’m flattered by the compliment but I mostly just wing it. Believe it or not, I thrift shop. It’s the best way to cut back on expenses and find great pieces to combine especially at this stage of my life. Like I said earlier, style is simply an expression and the combination of whatever I see and admire is where I create my cute outfits from. But occasionally I hit the fancy stores when I’m feeling a little more wealthy. I also get free clothes as gifts from a few upcoming designers.

What do you splurge on?

Makeup products, Sneakers, books, food, soursop (till I got sick from too much of it)

What or who inspires your style?

A lot of things and people inspire my style. I try not to get in over my head and attempt to recreate an exact lookalike because I wanna express my intentions and emotion differently through my style. So, it’s basically anyone with a great outfit or even circumstances. But I look up to great people in the fashion industry like Jane Michael Ekanem, one of the best award winning celebrity fashion stylist in the country, Deola Sagoe, Tara Durotoye, Aderonke (rhonkefella) and Toju Foye.

Who was your first style icon?

Jane Michael. I discovered her in my second year in the university and I had screenshots of different outfits she had combined for people or herself. She is simply amazing and I desperately wait for the day when I invite her over to my house for a cup of tea. Also, I fell in love with Mai Atafo.

Tell us about that fashion designers who makes you go all “wow!”

Toju Foyeh, Mai Atafo, Deola Sagoe. They’re amazing.

Do you have any special fashion rules you make for yourself?

I just wing it. I’m not trying to be like anyone else so I’m all about testing unchartered waters. But I’m careful to combine outfits in line with my body type.

Accessories! What’s perfect for you and which do you think is a must have for every lady?

A Fedora hat. I love these bad boys. They work with short hair, blow-outs, bad hair days, kinky, curly etc. …they’re my absolute favourite things to buy.

What’s your next fashion must have?

Fedora hats in all available colors with matching sneakers.

If you could steal a celebrity’s wardrobe, whose would it be?

Jane Michael, Rhonkefella, Mai Atafo’s bridal shop, Wana Sambo and recently, Eno Jerry. I saw this amazing tailored jacket on her at an  event and I instantly put her on my list of possible raids.

What’s your style philosophy?

Be different, break the norm, be weird.
