A Nigerian lady named Obiageli Omeke who graduated from an American university, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is the first person from her village, Umuogbo Agu in Enugu-ezike, Enugu state in Nigeria, to earn a bachelor’s degree from an American university.
The school had announced last year, after featuring her in their school’s list of Outstanding Students known as the Outstanding Islanders, that Omeke was one of 871 students who will receive degrees at the fall 2016 Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi commencement ceremony.

According to her, after moving to the United States in 2009, she first considered obtaining a Master of Business Administration, but changed her mind after taking jobs in home health care.
She then earned her certification as a nursing assistant and soon after, took on the challenge of pursuing a nursing degree at the Island University.
“I chose the career of nursing because of who I am. Nursing is all of me.” She said.
She also said that her parents who are both teachers, first ignited her passion for nurturing others and helping the less fortunate. Her family also encouraged and prayed with her and she ended up conquering her greatest feat of graduating with a nursing degree.
