Following Ibrahim Magu’s second rejection by the senate based on allegations labelled against him by the DSS, some politicians in Lagos have advised Buhari to nominate another person as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC).
The Deputy Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of PDP, Chief Ola Apena, in an Interview said that the government should not leave Nigerians with the impression that nobody else could do the job, as there are other Nigerians who can manage EFCC.
The Department of State Service after investigations, had concluded that Magu does not possess the level of integrity and transparency needed to manage the EFCC.
The Executive Secretary of Anti-Corruption and Research-based Data Initiative, Mr Dennis Aghanya, who affirmed Apena’s statement also
called on the National Assembly to amend the EFCC Act to inorder to accommodate people in other professions as EFCC chairman and not only people in the police or armed force.
The 2015 Presidential Candidate of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Chief Martin Onovo, added that the senate has a constitutional role to screen people nominated by the president for certain positions in the government and that they did the right thing to screen Magu.
He further advised Buhari to seek security clearance of a certain class of nominees before sending them to the senate for screening to avoid a repeat of the incident.
