Drone designed and built in Akwa Ibom
The Nigerian technology sector has been active recently as several innovations have been surfacing.
These innovations have mostly been from young Nigerians. One of such is that which has surfaced the internet recently.
A group of five Electrical Electronics Engineers have designed and built a drone.
The team of five; Jones Joseph, Ekemini Abner, Gabriel Umoh, Ekpo Esua Ekpo, & Faith Okon started out in January 2017 and got the drone completed in November 2017.
A post made the group leader, Jones Joseph on Facebook read:
“On January 2017, I coordinated a group of five smart Engineers; Ekemini Abner, Ekpo Esua Ekpo, Gabriel Umoh, and Faith Okon, all Electrical Electronics Engineers as we dared the undared by designing, fabricating & producing an unmanned aerial vehicle popularly known as DRONE.
It was a daunting task. We failed many times, got discouraged because of the high cost of components importation, got frustrated because most items were not found in the Nigerian market.
But we pushed on to achieve that euphoria of success, God standing by us. November same year, our locally made drone successfully flew.
I’ve not been moved to post this achievement on social media, but for some strange combination of reasons, I’m posting it today to encourage someone embarking on any project.
Nothing is too difficult to achieve, though we come from Nigeria, there’s a lot we can do technologically.”
