The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Delta State Chapter, on Monday refused to heed to it’s state government’s directive to return to work. The teachers had been on strike since the 9th of March.
The state government had issued a statement on Sunday that all principals, teachers and students should go back to schools on Monday.
The statement added that if the teachers fail to obey the directive, the state government might have to apply the principle of “No work, No pay”.
According to report, schools were still under lock and the pupils were seen in groups loitering outside their school gates despite the fact that the government had given a directive earlier for schools to be reopened today, Monday, 20th March 2017.
Some students appealed to the state government and the leadership of NUT Delta State to resolve their differences so that public school pupils could resume their studies.
